Stafford Rangers (STRIPES) Press Release For Telford Match
Dear David,
As the
secretary of STRIPES (Stafford Rangers Independent Supporters Trust) I wish to bring to you and your membership’s attention
the current plight of Stafford Rangers Football Club!
Evidently, in recent times, Stafford Rangers Football Club has
found itself in a position of spending more than it was receiving. The areas of expenditure involved have been many and varied
with, what we view as, wildly differing levels of benefit to the fans of our club. Therefore our Directors have taken their
view on what they see as the priorities and decided to undertake several cost cutting measures. This has included a reduction
in wages to players and staff and subsequently the result has been the recent departure of our manager and several key players.
The fans are fully supportive of this particular action taken as it serves as a means of safeguarding the future of our football
club.
Due to the situation you found yourselves in nearly 5 years ago, I know that your fans will have sympathy with
our position as fans of a club in turmoil. I wish therefore to encourage as many fans of AFC Telford to travel to Stafford
Rangers on Boxing Day and show their support for both the club and STRIPES. Both the club and STRIPES are grateful to any
financial help your fans may give us on the day. However, for the purposes of their own judgement we at STRIPES feel your
fans need to know where their money will go before they contribute to the cause!
Our philosophy at STRIPES is for the
club to raise the thousands and STRIPES, with other fans of the club, to raise the hundreds. Therefore your fans should be
aware that any STRIPES fundraising on Boxing Day will be through sales of 5’s scratch cards and “Golden Goal”
tickets. These activities will see money raised by STRIPES and then in turn its own members will determine where the money
is then spent, for what it sees as, the maximum benefit of Stafford Rangers fans!
While not standing in the way of
the clubs aims STRIPES would rather help the club fund essential needs. Money raised by STRIPES therefore can be channelled
appropriately and used to meet the essential needs of Stafford Rangers FC. In the years since our formation STRIPES has helped
the club with donations to the successful floodlight and steelwork appeals as well as purchasing a kit hamper, tourist road
signs and essential medical equipment. These all fall in the remit of assisting the club through member’s votes rather
than just handing over money without accountability.
Yours sincerely P D Bennett (secretary)

This Christmas STRIPES are organising the clubs Christmas draw. The tickets are currently
at the printers, with a generous backing of Westside taxis as the sponsor.
Each book at £1 will contain 5, 20p tickets, with prizes as follows.
10 first prizes of a turkey
10 second prizes of a bottle of wine
10 third prizes of Christmas chocolates
Plus assorted other Christmas, Stafford rangers and STRIPES goodies.
The Stafford Rangers Juniors Football teams will be selling tickets and for them they
will receive a pay back for their team based on numbers sold.
You too as a member could receive a reward based on the numbers of tickets you sell.
I am optimistic that if we can sell the bulk of these tickets then the club, the boys
teams and STRIPES can all win handsomely.

Physio, Steve Bateman made STRIPES aware of some much needed
medical equipment that could reduce the time a player was out injured. STRIPES members agreed to this support and STRIPES
gave Steve £600. Through his contacts, Steve was able to purchase equipment including the apparatus featured below, helping
keeper Danny Alcock get back to full fitness.
STRIPES ARE STILL WAITING TO HEAR FROM THE CLUB ABOUT THE LETTER WHICH WAS SENT ON 1ST JULY 2008
STRIPES have sent a letter to the club about ideas that STRIPES would like to do to get more members joining next
season.
Here
is a copy of the letter sent to the board of Stafford Rangers Football club.
For some time STRIPES has been wishing to meet with the board (or board members) to discuss
issues relevant to both the Football Club and STRIPES. For various reasons such a meeting has yet to take place and therefore
STRIPES requests that in order to raise these issues, that either a meeting can be arranged or that STRIPES can have time
at a forthcoming board meeting to put forward our ideas.
STRIPES wish to discuss the following matters.
- To increase our membership base,
and therefore indirectly increase our funds available to the Football Club, we need to offer inducements to our members. We
require confirmation from the board that we can offer items such as free match tickets and autographed footballs periodically
through the season via members only raffles / draws. We aim to increase our junior membership and as an inducement we would
appreciate the offer of a “free” mascot for one game in the season, the winner coming again from a members only
raffle / draw.
· STRIPES has a Council Lottery
licence and has already run a successful Easter draw. Our aims are to run a Christmas draw, but will this compete with a clubs
draw or do we combine in some way ?
- STRIPES may have the opportunity
to acquire funding for a substantial shed which could provide two functions. That of a focal point on the ground for STRIPES
and a programme sales outlet for the Football Club to replace the current structure which I believe has a poor roof.
- STRIPES
has always been concerned with the toilet and disabled toilet facilities at the ground and Social Club. We consider that with
our status as a cooperative we may be able to acquire grant funding that is not available to the Football and Social Club.
However to pursue such a claim we would need to know of any action taken to date with any plans that are in place.
- There
are also other more minor issues where STRIPES requires agreement of the board in order to increase the awareness of the football
club and also to be in a better position to raise STRIPES funds for members to direct to the Football club as requested.
Yours sincerely
